The Punjab Government has approved Rs. 17.9 billion worth of water supply and sewerage projects for Rawalpindi, marking one of the largest infrastructure initiatives in the region in recent years.
The approval was granted during a Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) meeting chaired by the Secretary of Planning and Development in Lahore on November 7.
The flagship Rs. 11 billion project will establish a modern underground sewerage network in areas managed by the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) that currently lack proper systems. Officials say the plan aims to improve sanitation, protect the environment, and enhance urban living standards.
Another Rs. 3.6 billion has been set aside to replace the decades-old water supply system linking Khanpur Dam and Rawal Dam with Rawalpindi. The upgrade includes new pipelines to ensure clean and uninterrupted water supply for residents.
Additionally, Rs. 3.3 billion will fund sewerage upgrades in Rawalpindi and Chaklala Cantonment Boards, resolving long-standing sanitation and drainage issues.
Authorities emphasize that these projects align with Punjab’s strategy to modernize civic infrastructure and boost public welfare across major cities.
