The Punjab government has decided to introduce smart water meters in Lahore to reduce water wastage and charge consumers strictly for the amount they use.
WASA Lahore has floated its first tender to buy 10,000 smart meters worth Rs. 500 million. The pilot phase will start from Johar Town A-1 Block.
According to WASA’s management, every consumer will be able to check their meter reading online through the new digital system. Each smart meter will cost Rs. 35,000, and consumers can pay through easy installments.
To keep the project running, WASA has also set up a revolving fund, and more smart meters will be purchased three times a year under the tender system.
