Matric Exams Likely Post-Eid in Punjab as Govt Reviews New Schedule

Punjab is considering a major change to its matric exam schedule for 2026. According to a report by City42, officials are reviewing a proposal to hold exams after Ramadan instead of early March.

The suggestion came after concerns that nearly 2.5 million students struggle to prepare during the fasting month.

Ramadan in 2026 is expected to begin around 18 February, with Eid-ul-Fitr likely on 19 or 20 March. Education authorities say moving exams to the period after Eid would avoid a clash with Ramadan and reduce pressure on students.

Earlier, the provincial government announced matric exams would start on March 3, 2026, and intermediate exams on May 5, 2026. But the new proposal may adjust these dates.

Teachers support the idea, saying many students find it harder to maintain study routines during fasting and long days. They believe that holding exams after Ramadan would help students revise properly and balance religious duties with exam preparation.
