The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has cleared a large-scale rehabilitation and solarisation program for the Green Line Metro Bus route, setting aside Rs. 2.44 billion for improvements across the 27-kilometer corridor from Gajjumatta to Shahdara.
The initiative aims to upgrade station infrastructure, mechanical systems, and overall commuter facilities, bringing the busy travel corridor in line with new operational standards.
Tender documents show that the plan will be executed in four separate packages. The Gajjumatta–Chungi Amar Sidhu section carries a cost estimate of Rs. 611.5 million, while upgrades on the Ghazi Road–Kalma Chowk stretch have been budgeted at Rs. 542.7 million.
Work on the Canal Station–MAO College portion will total Rs. 711.8 million, and improvements along Civil Secretariat–Niazi Chowk will require around Rs. 577.3 million. Officials said the rehabilitation effort focuses on structural fixes, architectural improvements, and better passenger amenities.
Plans include installing new signage, refurbishing floors, replacing damaged glazing, and applying updated coatings inside and outside stations. Louvres and design modifications are also part of the package to improve functionality and durability.
A major feature of the project is the creation of inverter rooms for station solarisation. Authorities say shifting portions of the Green Line to solar power will cut energy costs and reduce dependence on the national grid.
