Punjab Issues Warning Over Fake E-Challan Scam Messages

Citizens across Punjab have reported receiving fraudulent e-challan text messages, prompting the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) to issue a strong public warning about a rising scam. The authority urged people to stay alert and avoid clicking suspicious links or responding to any payment request sent via SMS.

A PSCA spokesperson clarified that the authority never asks for bank details, cash payments, or account information through text messages. Genuine e-challan alerts are issued only from the official 8070 number.

⚠️ Fake messages mimicking official alerts

Scammers have been sending texts designed to look like official notifications, attempting to lure people into unsafe websites or trick them into paying fake fines. Officials emphasized that PSCA services are free, and citizens should not transfer money through any unverified channel.

The authority advised that any suspicious message should be reported immediately to Police Helpline 15 or the FIA Cyber Wing. Authentic e-challans always include verifiable details such as violation type, date, time, and location.

🛑 Action against cybercriminals

PSCA has submitted a formal complaint to the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) to track individuals involved in cloning government platforms and creating fraudulent websites. Authorities said strict legal action will be taken against anyone misusing PSCA’s name to deceive the public.
