Former Australian captain Aaron Finch has hailed Shaheen Shah Afridi as one of the most dangerous fast bowlers in world cricket, stating that the Pakistan pacer has the ability to completely dismantle batting lineups when in rhythm.

Speaking on a recent Big Bash League (BBL) podcast, Finch said:

“Shaheen Shah Afridi can tear a batting lineup apart when he gets it right.”

Shaheen is among seven Pakistani players participating in this year’s BBL and will represent Brisbane Heat. Finch emphasized that the inclusion of Pakistani players significantly enhances the competition level of the tournament.

Praise for Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan

Finch also shared his admiration for Babar Azam, recalling their encounters during Australia’s tour of Pakistan.

“I played against Babar in Pakistan, and it was almost impossible to get him out,” Finch said.
“He’s been a bit quiet over the last 18 months, but at his best, he’s a world-beater.”

He also highlighted Mohammad Rizwan’s infectious energy behind the stumps, joking about his constant chatter while acknowledging his immense talent.

Pakistani Players as Global Superstars

Finch described Pakistani cricketers as global superstars, stressing their importance to leagues like the BBL.

“They’re not just Pakistan players — they’re global superstars. Their presence is crucial for knowledge-sharing and improving competition quality.”

This season’s BBL will feature several Pakistani stars, including Shaheen Shah Afridi (Brisbane Heat), Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Haris Rauf (Melbourne Stars), Shadab Khan (Sydney Thunder), Hasan Ali (Adelaide Strikers), and Usama Mir (Melbourne Renegades).
