The Karachi Police have announced a large-scale crackdown against vehicles using fancy, fake, or illegal number plates across the city. The operation aims to curb traffic violations and prevent motorists from evading the electronic challan system.
The announcement was made by Additional Inspector General (AIG) Karachi Javed Alam Odho during a press conference at the Karachi Police Office. He was accompanied by Chief Citizens Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) Zubair Habib, DIG Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah, and Director Excise Motor Registration Shabana Baloch.
Crackdown to Begin From Friday
AIG Javed Alam Odho confirmed that the citywide crackdown will begin from Friday. District police will conduct the operation jointly with the excise department and the CPLC, ensuring coordinated enforcement across Karachi.
Authorities have observed that some motorists are using fake, concealed, altered, or fancy number plates to avoid penalties issued through the TRACS e-challan system. Monitoring data and official records indicate an increase in such practices after improvements in traffic surveillance.
Vehicles to Be Seized, Cases to Be Registered
Police officials stated that excise department records will be verified before any action is taken. Vehicles and motorcycles found violating number plate regulations will be seized, and cases will be registered against offenders under the law.
Special attention will also be given to the illegal use of green number plates, which are reserved for specific government vehicles only.
Instructions for Law-Abiding Motorists
Motorists who have already applied for legal number plates have been advised to carry a valid receipt at all times. Vehicles without proper documentation may be temporarily seized until verification is completed.
Police officials emphasized that the operation is intended to improve traffic discipline, enhance transparency, and ensure equal enforcement of the law across the city.
