Punjab’s First E-Taxi Scheme Reaches Key Milestone

Significant progress has been made on Punjab’s first-ever E-Taxi Scheme, aimed at promoting eco-friendly transport and creating employment opportunities across the province.

A steering committee meeting on the E-Taxi Scheme was held under the chairmanship of Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan, with senior officials from the Transport Department, Bank of Punjab, and other relevant institutions in attendance.

During the briefing, officials informed the committee that 1,100 electric vehicles have been allocated for the first phase of the scheme. More than 22,000 applications have already been received from interested candidates.

Authorities said the verification and approval process is currently underway, and applications that meet all requirements will be included in the e-balloting process. Officials added that the number of vehicles allocated for individual applicants may be increased if needed.

Addressing the meeting, Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan directed departments to complete all procedural matters swiftly. He said the scheme would provide respectable employment opportunities, particularly for youth and women, while offering the public modern, affordable, and environmentally friendly transport services.

The minister emphasized that the scheme has been introduced with easy terms and conditions, and that the Punjab government will bear the entire interest cost on the vehicles.

Bilal Akbar Khan reaffirmed that the Punjab government is committed to making the E-Taxi Scheme a model project for modern transportation and sustainable job creation.
