PMDC Introduces Mandatory Provisional Registration for Foreign Medical Graduates

PMDC Introduces Mandatory Provisional Registration for Foreign Medical Graduates

The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has introduced a significant regulatory change for foreign medical graduates seeking to begin their house job in Pakistan. Under the new directive, provisional registration has been made mandatory before any foreign graduate can start house job training at a public or private hospital.

According to PMDC officials, no foreign medical graduate will be allowed to undertake a house job without provisional registration. The council has made it clear that compliance with this rule is compulsory and will be closely monitored.

PMDC Introduces Mandatory Provisional Registration for Foreign Medical Graduates

Immediate Suspension of Unregistered House Jobs

In a firm move to enforce the new regulation, PMDC has directed that any house job currently being carried out without provisional registration must be stopped immediately. Medical colleges and teaching hospitals have been instructed to verify the registration status of all foreign graduates currently enrolled in house jobs.

Official Notification Issued Nationwide

PMDC has issued an official notification to all public and private medical colleges and hospitals across Pakistan. Institutions have been instructed to strictly implement the directive and ensure that no foreign medical graduate is allowed to work without meeting the registration requirement.

Failure to comply with the instructions could result in administrative action against the concerned institutions, according to officials familiar with the matter.

Who Does the Rule Apply To?

The new rule applies only to graduates from PMDC-recognised foreign medical universities. These graduates must obtain provisional registration before they can become eligible for a house job in Pakistan.

However, graduates from non-recognised foreign institutions face an additional requirement. Such candidates will first need to pass the National Registration Examination (NRE) to obtain provisional registration and qualify for a house job.

What This Means for Medical Graduates

The decision is expected to improve regulatory oversight, training quality, and patient safety. Foreign medical graduates are advised to complete their registration process well in advance to avoid delays in starting their house job.

This move highlights PMDC’s effort to align Pakistan’s medical training standards with international best practices.
