Progress on the scheme was reviewed during a steering committee meeting chaired by Provincial Minister for Transport and Mass Transit Bilal Akbar Khan.
Officials informed the committee that 1,100 electric vehicles have been earmarked for deployment in the first phase of the project. The session marked the third review meeting, focusing on operational readiness and application processing.
Authorities also shared that the E-Taxi Scheme has attracted over 22,000 applications, reflecting strong public interest. The scrutiny of applications is currently under way, while approvals are being processed in stages.
During the briefing, officials highlighted that the scheme is designed to generate employment opportunities, with a particular emphasis on women participation. In response to rising demand, the government confirmed that the E-Taxi Scheme will be expanded to more cities across Punjab.
The initiative is expected to contribute to cleaner urban transport while supporting livelihoods through sustainable mobility solutions.
