Pakistan spinner Abrar Ahmed has revealed that his career in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) took a decisive turn after joining Quetta Gladiators, crediting the franchise for trusting his abilities when others did not.
Speaking during the PSL international roadshow in New York, Abrar said he struggled to find opportunities with other franchises earlier in his PSL journey.
“I didn’t get a chance in Peshawar Zalmi and Karachi Kings, and Islamabad United mostly play their own players. Then I went to Quetta, and they believed in me. That belief is why I achieved success,” Abrar said.
The roadshow was attended by several Pakistani international cricketers, including Shan Masood, Saud Shakeel, Salman Ali Agha, Saim Ayub, Faheem Ashraf, and Abrar himself. Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States, Saeed Sheikh, was also present at the event.
Addressing the gathering, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi highlighted the PSL’s role in nurturing young talent. He said the league provides players with a platform to develop their skills while prize money acts as a strong motivation factor. He also noted that PSL investors receive significant commercial benefits.
Naqvi confirmed that PSL 11 will begin on March 26, with the final scheduled for May 3. He added that bids for the league’s two new franchises must be submitted by December 22.
Former PCB chairman Ramiz Raja praised the PSL as an ideal learning ground for young cricketers, saying it tests temperament and exposes players to experienced international stars. PSL CEO Salman Naseer also described the league as a key pillar of Pakistan cricket, emphasizing its role in connecting fans and nations through sport.
