The Punjab government has announced the launch of an electric bus service in Jhelum, marking another major step toward eco-friendly and affordable public transport under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s Green Initiative.
According to an official announcement by the Punjab Transport Company, the electric buses will begin operations from December 18, 2025, providing residents with a modern, environment-friendly travel option.
Routes Covered by Electric Buses in Jhelum
Authorities confirmed that the electric bus service will operate on multiple key routes across Jhelum, improving connectivity for daily commuters. The approved routes include:

Officials said additional routes may be added in the future based on passenger demand and operational success.
Flat Rs 20 Fare for All Passengers
In a major relief for the public, the government has fixed a flat fare of just Rs 20 for passengers using the electric bus service. The low fare aims to encourage the use of public transport while reducing reliance on private vehicles.
Authorities believe affordable pricing will particularly benefit students, daily wage workers, and office commuters.
Eco-Friendly and Cost-Effective Transport
The electric bus project is part of Punjab’s broader strategy to reduce air pollution and fuel dependency by shifting toward clean energy solutions.
Officials from the Punjab Transport Company stated that electric buses produce zero tailpipe emissions, helping improve air quality and reduce noise pollution in urban areas.
