Field Marshal and Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir will serve a five-year term as Pakistan’s first Chief of Defense Forces (CDF) once the government formally notifies the appointment. The National Assembly has approved key amendments to the Army, Air Force, and Navy laws, creating the new role and updated senior ranks.

Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar told the House that the CDF will hold office for five years while continuing duties as COAS. The new legislation also recognizes honorary ranks including Field Marshal, Marshal of the Air Force, and Admiral of the Fleet.
