At least 42 Indian Umrah pilgrims from Hyderabad are feared dead after a bus travelling from Makkah to Madinah collided with a diesel tanker early Monday morning.
The accident happened around 1:00 am PST in the Mufrihat area. The bus had 43 passengers, and only one person is reported to have survived. The injured survivor has been shifted to a nearby hospital.
Majority of Passengers Were Families
According to initial reports, the passengers included 20 women and 11 children, many of whom were asleep at the time of the collision. The group had completed Umrah and was on its way to Madinah when the accident occurred.
Local sources have confirmed 42 fatalities, though an official statement from authorities is still awaited.
Rescue & Investigation Underway
Emergency teams are carrying out recovery and identification operations. Authorities have started an investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash.
