The Directorate General of Immigration & Passports has introduced a simplified online method for citizens to apply for passports through the official e-services portal, eliminating the need to stand in long queues at passport offices.
In a video shared on social media, the department explained how applicants can apply online for passport renewal by visiting:

✔️ Step-by-Step Online Registration
According to the video guide, users who already have a registered account can simply click on “Login.”
New users must click on “Register” and fill in the required details on the registration form. Officials emphasized that applicants must provide a valid mobile number and email address.
After entering required information and a security code, users will receive a verification link via email. By clicking that link and entering the verification code, registration will be completed.
Users can then log in using their email and password.
✔️ Applying for a New Passport
Once logged in, applicants can choose from five different options depending on their requirements. The portal displays options for new applications, renewals, and other passport services.
Officials clarified that passport renewal is only allowed if the current passport expires within one year, and users cannot change key details such as name or occupation through renewal.
Applicants can also select a nearby passport office through a drop-down list to avoid long-distance travel if physical appearance is required.
✔️ Photo & Document Requirements
The department also explained photo and file guidelines:
-
Maximum file size: 1 MB
-
Accepted formats: PNG, JPG, or JPEG
-
Documents must be clear and readable
Both male and female applicants must follow the official photo instructions provided in the video.
The new system is expected to make passport processing easier and faster, particularly for citizens who want to avoid crowded offices and lengthy waiting times.
