Islamabad Issues Strict Warning to Smoke-Emitting Vehicles

The Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (Pak-EPA) has issued a strict warning to owners of smoke-emitting vehicles in Islamabad as the city ramps up its anti-smog crackdown.

Pak-EPA Director General Nazia Zaib Ali said enforcement teams have increased roadside checks on major roads, targeting vehicles that release visible smoke. She confirmed that violators will face on-the-spot fines, vehicle confiscation, or both, depending on the severity.

She said that driving a smoke-emitting vehicle is an environmental crime under federal law, and such vehicles will not be allowed on the roads because they pose serious health risks.

The agency highlighted that old diesel buses, trucks, wagons, Qingqi rickshaws, and poorly maintained motorcycles are major contributors to toxic emissions in the capital. These vehicles release dangerous pollutants that worsen winter smog and increase breathing problems.

Pak-EPA urged citizens to cooperate with inspection teams, maintain their vehicles properly, and report violators to help improve air quality in Islamabad.
