A reported gas leak caused an explosion at NUML University Islamabad on Tuesday, leaving several individuals injured and triggering panic across the campus.
Initial information indicates that the blast occurred inside a closed classroom where gas had reportedly accumulated. When a janitorial staff member unlocked the room and switched on the lights, the gas ignited and caused the explosion.
The fire spread to nearby areas of Iqbal Block before emergency teams from Rescue 1122 arrived and managed to contain the situation.
Four people were injured, including the janitor who suffered severe burn wounds. All victims received first aid on campus and were later shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. Hospital sources have stated that two students were pronounced dead by medical examiners.
Images and videos taken by students soon began circulating on social media, with widespread shock and grief over the campus incident.
Authorities have launched a formal inquiry to determine the cause of the leak and identify any negligence or safety lapses that may have contributed to the explosion.
