Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met Punjab Minister for Transport and Mass Transit Bilal Akbar Khan on Monday to evaluate upcoming reforms in the transport sector, with particular attention on the Islamabad–Rawalpindi Metro Bus Service.
Officials said discussions covered improving service efficiency, upgrading station facilities, and enhancing the daily travel experience for passengers.
The two sides explored proposals to modernize the system and reviewed the idea of extending the existing metro route to address rising commuter demand. Naqvi noted that thousands depend on the metro each day and called for consistent upgrades to keep pace with population growth.
One of the main decisions was to establish a joint coordination committee to oversee planned improvements and ensure smooth execution of new initiatives. Authorities also underlined the need for wider adoption of electric transport to reduce smog and improve convenience in the region.
Naqvi said Islamabad has already deployed electric buses and confirmed that the fleet size and route network will continue to expand. Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan briefed the interior minister on recent steps taken to modernize public transport throughout Punjab.
