Karachi Traffic System Gets Tougher — New Safety Rule Announced

Karachi’s traffic authorities have rolled out a stricter enforcement drive, warning both drivers and front-seat passengers to comply with the mandatory seat belt requirement across the city.

A senior traffic officer told a private news channel that enforcement teams will now penalize anyone sitting in the front seat without a seat belt — not just the driver. The official confirmed that the department is adopting a tougher approach to ensure consistent compliance.

He also noted that if a driver receives another ticket after previously being let off with a waived fine, that earlier fine will now be collected as well. According to the officer, the era of repeated leniency for habitual violators is officially over.

Authorities highlighted another challenge: Karachi Traffic Police still lacks access to registration information for vehicles belonging to other provinces. Meanwhile, complaints about fake or tampered number plates have increased, prompting the department to tighten surveillance and verification checks.
