Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has rolled out a major upgrade to its vehicle registration process with the launch of the Personalized Registration Mark (PRM) System, enabling citizens to own and retain their vehicle number plates permanently.

Chief Minister Sohail Afridi inaugurated the digital platform on Wednesday, marking a shift toward modern, identity-based registration.

Under the new system, individuals will keep their assigned number even after selling their vehicle. Officials said the number will remain with the seller free of cost, while the buyer must apply for a new registration mark.

Citizens are also allowed to retain their number for up to three years without attaching it to any vehicle.

Authorities explained that the new framework makes the registration number function more like a CNIC or mobile number, belonging to the person instead of the vehicle. Afridi said this reform will help eliminate fake plates, cloning, and other illegal practices.

He added that the personalized approach will make registration faster, more transparent, and corruption-free, while reducing misuse of vehicles across the province.

The Chief Minister also instructed the Excise Department to launch an online registration system for ease of access.

During the event, Afridi announced a martyrs’ package for Excise Department personnel involved in anti-narcotics operations, similar to benefits offered to police officers. He commended the department’s efforts and expressed hope for meaningful progress toward a drug-free KP.

Calling for stronger measures, Afridi urged authorities to pursue major elements of the drug trade, reiterating the government’s zero-tolerance policy toward narcotics.
