The Lahore administration has formally announced the start of preparations for the Basant festival, with groundwork expected to begin from this week. The move signals renewed efforts to organize the traditional festival under strict safety regulations and controlled conditions.
According to official sources, online registration for kite and string manufacturers and sellers will also commence this week. Authorities have made it clear that only registered individuals will be allowed to manufacture and sell kites and string after completing the prescribed registration process.
Designated Sale Points and Online Permits
The administration has decided that the sale of kites and string will be allowed through stalls set up at designated locations in the Walled City. In addition, citizens will be able to obtain manufacturing permits through an online portal, making the process transparent and easier to monitor.
Officials said that permission to manufacture kites and string will be granted strictly under Schedule One, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
Limits on Kite Production
This year, authorities will allow the manufacture and sale of one-and-a-half tawa gadda and four-and-a-half gath kites. These limits have been set to control large-scale production and reduce safety risks associated with the festival.
While kite and string production will be permitted anywhere in Lahore, manufacturers will be required to inform the administration in advance about the production site to enable monitoring and inspection.
Strict SOPs to Be Enforced
Authorities emphasized that all registered manufacturers and sellers must strictly follow the approved standard operating procedures (SOPs). The aim is to ensure that Basant-related activities remain safe, well-organised, and free from hazardous practices.
Officials added that enforcement teams will remain active throughout the festival period to ensure compliance and prevent violations.
