Major Change in Punjab Schools — Saturday Holiday Scrapped

The Punjab School Education Department has reportedly abolished the weekly Saturday holiday for its administrative staff, directing offices to remain open on both Saturdays and Sundays.

According to officials, the department has issued instructions to all subordinate institutions to implement the revised working schedule with immediate effect. The decision reportedly applies to administrative offices rather than teaching activities in schools.

Heads of 10 attached departments have been directed to comply with the new instructions. The directive has reportedly been circulated to all Directorates of Public Instruction (DPIs), the Children’s Library Complex, Punjab Education Media Authority (PEMA), and the Punjab Education Curriculum and Training Authority (PECTA).

Sources said PECTA and PEMA have also been asked to brief the Secretary of the School Education Department on operational arrangements and working mechanisms under the revised schedule.

Officials indicated that the newly appointed Secretary Schools has formally informed all subordinate institutions about the change, stating that the move aims to improve coordination, efficiency, and overall performance within the department.

The development has sparked discussion among education staff, as Saturday has traditionally been observed as a weekly holiday in many government offices.
