Karachi commuters are set to face another major traffic disruption as the Karachi Water and Sewerage System Improvement Project (KWSSIP) starts large-scale excavation work on University Road.

According to officials, the stretch between Nipa Chowrangi and Federal Urdu University will remain closed from November 10 to December 30, 2025, for the installation of 96-inch and 72-inch pipelines under the K-IV augmentation plan.

Authorities explained that the project involves laying a 2.7-kilometre pipeline network to enhance Karachi’s water supply. However, the closure comes amid ongoing congestion caused by the Red Line BRT project, which has already turned several key roads into construction zones.

Residents of Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, and nearby areas have expressed concern over worsening traffic, dust, and noise.

The project’s first phase covers Nipa Chowrangi to Federal Urdu University, while the second phase will extend from Hasan Square to Nipa Chowrangi. Officials have set December 30 as the completion target, though citizens remain skeptical due to Karachi’s history of delays.
