The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has issued an important advisory urging citizens to collect their Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) within the specified timeframe to avoid unnecessary complications.
According to NADRA’s updated policy, CNICs that remain uncollected for more than three months after the assigned delivery date will be permanently discarded. In such cases, applicants will be required to reapply for a new CNIC and pay the applicable fee again, resulting in avoidable delays and extra costs.
Citizens Advised to Use Pak-ID App & Home Delivery
To reduce congestion at NADRA offices, citizens have been strongly encouraged to use the Pak-ID mobile application or opt for home delivery services. These digital options allow applicants to receive their CNICs directly at home, minimizing physical visits and saving time.
Officials say the move is part of NADRA’s broader push toward digital convenience and efficient service delivery, especially for applicants living in busy urban areas.
New Fingerprint System for Passport Applicants
In a related development, the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports, in collaboration with NADRA, has introduced a new fingerprint confirmation system for passport applicants.
Under the updated process, applicants can now verify fingerprints remotely through the Pak-ID app at any time and from anywhere. If fingerprint verification fails, users can switch to facial recognition verification, improving accessibility for elderly citizens and those facing biometric issues.
How to Verify Biometrics for Passport Applications
To apply for a new passport:
-
Visit the online passport application portal
-
At the fingerprint verification stage, log in to the Pak-ID app
-
Select “Online Passport”
-
Complete biometric and facial recognition verification using your passport tracking ID and CNIC number
Authorities believe these measures will significantly reduce processing delays, improve accuracy, and modernize Pakistan’s identity and passport systems.
