Pakistan’s net metering electricity generation saw a sharp 28% month-on-month increase in September 2025, reflecting the country’s growing shift toward rooftop solar power and renewable energy independence.

According to NEPRA data compiled by Arif Habib Limited, the share of net metering in total electricity generation climbed by 57 basis points year-on-year, showing strong momentum in household and commercial solar installations.
Experts say this surge reflects how rising electricity tariffs and load-shedding are pushing consumers to generate their own power. With more homes and businesses installing solar panels, Pakistan’s solar capacity is expanding faster than ever.
In total, national power generation increased 0.8% year-on-year in September. Analysts expect this trend to continue as net metering becomes more accessible, solar technology prices fall, and government incentives encourage cleaner energy adoption.
The consistent rise in solar-fed electricity highlights a major shift in Pakistan’s energy landscape — from dependence on imported fuels to sustainable, locally generated power.
