The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is considering a landmark expansion of the Pakistan Super League (PSL 11) by bringing matches to Muzaffarabad Cricket Stadium in Azad Kashmir, a move that could reshape the league’s geographical footprint.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi confirmed that the board is actively working to include Muzaffarabad as a host city for PSL 11, with long-term plans also targeting the staging of international matches at the venue in the future.
🌍 PCB’s Vision to Take PSL Beyond Traditional Cities
Speaking about the board’s future roadmap, Naqvi emphasized that the PCB wants PSL to reach new regions, promoting cricket development while strengthening fan engagement nationwide.
The announcement comes shortly after the PSL Roadshow held at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London, where the PCB disclosed that Abbottabad and Muzaffarabad stadiums are both under serious consideration for major infrastructure upgrades.
🏟️ Infrastructure Upgrades Under Discussion
According to PCB officials:
-
Talks are underway to modernize Muzaffarabad and Abbottabad stadiums
-
Both venues have a strong domestic cricket history
-
Neither has hosted PSL or international matches so far
The PCB believes these upgrades could bring both grounds up to international standards, opening doors for future global fixtures.
🇵🇰 Muzaffarabad Stadium’s Unique Legacy
Also known as Narol Cricket Stadium, Muzaffarabad Stadium has been:
-
A key venue for the Kashmir Premier League (KPL)
-
Host to Under-19 and senior inter-district matches
-
Used as a temporary hospital during earthquake emergencies, highlighting its community importance
Despite its significance, the stadium has never been officially added to Pakistan’s international venue list.
🏔️ Abbottabad Stadium: A Scenic Cricketing Gem
Situated over 1,200 metres above sea level, Abbottabad Cricket Stadium is admired for its breathtaking scenery. Pakistan legend Wasim Akram once called it “the most beautiful stadium in the world.”
The venue has:
-
Hosted First-Class and List-A matches
-
Staged Quaid-e-Azam Trophy games
-
Served as Pakistan’s training base before the 2013 Champions Trophy due to England-like conditions
Yet, it is still waiting for its first PSL or international match.
