The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially unveiled the latest design model for the revamped National Stadium Karachi, confirming a Rs. 4 billion infrastructure upgrade aimed at transforming one of Pakistan’s most iconic cricket venues.
As part of the project, the PCB has signed a formal contract with National Engineering Services Pakistan (NESPAK) to construct a new state-of-the-art enclosure. The redesign focuses on upgrading facilities to modern international standards, while significantly improving the overall match-day experience for fans, players, and broadcasters.
What the New Design Includes
According to the concept images released by PCB, the new enclosure will introduce several key upgrades:
-
Modern seating layout with improved sightlines across all sections
-
Dedicated VIP and corporate boxes for premium hospitality
-
Upgraded media and broadcast facilities to meet international coverage standards
-
Enhanced accessibility, including better crowd movement, entry, and exit routes
Officials believe these changes will bring National Stadium Karachi closer to the standards seen at leading international cricket venues.
More Stadium Projects in the Pipeline
The Board of Governors has also approved a second phase of renovation at the National Bank Stadium Karachi, which will begin after the conclusion of PSL 11 in 2026. In addition, PCB has cleared plans for an Oval-style redevelopment of Lahore’s LCCA Ground, signaling a broader push to modernize domestic cricket infrastructure.
New Islamabad Stadium and Regional Focus
Beyond Karachi and Lahore, the PCB is moving forward with plans for a brand-new international-standard stadium in Islamabad, with land allocated near D-12. The design is reportedly inspired by top cricket venues in the UAE, emphasizing fan comfort and broadcast readiness.
At the same time, Abbottabad and Muzaffarabad grounds have been prioritized for major upgrades for the first time, reflecting PCB’s strategy to expand high-quality cricket facilities beyond traditional big cities and create a more balanced national venue network.
A Long-Term Vision for Pakistani Cricket
With multiple stadium projects underway, the PCB appears committed to future-proofing Pakistan’s cricket infrastructure, improving fan engagement, attracting global events, and strengthening the country’s reputation as a reliable international cricket destination.
