What’s Changing?

Punjab is updating its 60-year-old traffic act, introducing 20 new amendments to improve safety and enforcement. Key points include:

  • Qingqi rickshaws banned on five major Lahore roads

  • 🚫 Underage driving crackdown: Owners can face up to 6 months in jail if minors are caught driving

  • 🚍 Passengers on bus rooftops will face strict action across Punjab

  • 🛑 Wedding halls must provide proper parking facilities or face penalties

  • 🚓 Even official vehicles will receive heavy fines for violations

Why the Ban?

Officials say these steps are meant to reduce traffic chaos and improve road discipline in Lahore. The government wants immediate results, especially on the city’s busiest routes.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz also warned that if the traffic police fail to deliver improvements, the department may face restructuring.
