The Punjab School Education Department has imposed a strict ban on keeping sticks inside schools after a sharp rise in corporal punishment cases across the province.
Official records show that over 70 cases of physical violence were reported in the 2024–25 academic year, and more than 81 incidents have already been documented this year. Despite several resolutions in the Punjab Assembly, no strong legislation has yet been introduced to stop the practice.
Authorities have now ordered that any teacher found carrying or using a stick will face strict disciplinary action. In cases of severe violence, an FIR will be registered against the responsible teacher.
However, concerns remain. At Government High School Kareem Block, students are reportedly still being punished for arriving late, and the Lahore Education Authority has not yet issued a clear response to these continued violations.
The education department says the new policy aims to ensure safer, violence-free learning environments for all students.
