Punjab Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb has confirmed that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved the long-awaited revival of the Basant festival, which will take place in Lahore on February 6, 7, and 8, returning after a 25-year hiatus.
Aurangzeb said the festival will operate under the Basant Ordinance 2025, which will be fully enforced to ensure strict regulation. Under the ordinance, all kite sellers, kite string manufacturers, and related suppliers must be registered, QR-coded, and monitored to prevent violations and enhance safety.
The minister emphasized that Basant is a celebration for the people of Lahore and that making it safe is a shared responsibility. She added that the Chief Minister has directed authorities to begin a citywide campaign to install safety antennas on all motorcycles starting immediately.
Officials plan to ensure that every motorcycle in Lahore is fitted with an antenna before and throughout the festival days to minimize accidents and enhance public safety.
The provincial government reiterated that safety measures will remain its highest priority, aiming to revive Basant as a vibrant cultural event while maintaining a secure environment for residents and visitors alike.
