World Record Alert: Fiery Fast Bowler Redefines T20 Cricket History

Cricket witnessed a moment never seen before at the international level as Indonesia’s right-arm fast bowler Gede Priandana etched his name into the history books by becoming the first player to take five wickets in a single over in T20 internationals.

The extraordinary feat was achieved during the first T20I against Cambodia in Bali, where the 28-year-old pacer produced a spell that stunned players, officials, and fans alike.

The Over That Changed T20 History

Cambodia were chasing 168 runs and stood at 106 for five after 15 overs when Priandana was introduced into the attack for the first time. What followed was nothing short of historic.

  • Ball 1: Shah Abrar Hussain dismissed

  • Ball 2: Nirmaljit Singh removed

  • Ball 3: Chanthoeun Rathanak out — completing a hat-trick

  • Ball 4: Dot ball

  • Ball 5: Mongdara Sok dismissed

  • Ball 6: Pel Vennak removed

The over produced five wickets, with Cambodia scoring just one run, a wide delivered between the final two dismissals. The batting side collapsed soon after, finishing 60 runs short of Indonesia’s total.

Contribution With the Bat

Earlier in the match, Priandana also contributed with the bat, scoring six runs off 11 balls at the top of the order. However, the star performance belonged to wicketkeeper-batter Dharma Kesuma, who smashed a magnificent unbeaten 110 off 68 balls, including eight fours and six sixes, powering Indonesia to 167 runs.

A Record Never Seen Before

Priandana’s achievement is the first confirmed instance of five wickets in an over in international T20 cricket, backed by complete ball-by-ball data. Previously, five-wicket overs had only occurred in domestic tournaments, including:

  • Al-Amin Hossain (Bangladesh, 2013–14 Victory Day T20 Cup)

  • Abhimanyu Mithun (India, 2019–20 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy)

Until now, the international T20 limit stood at four wickets in an over, a feat achieved 14 times, famously including Lasith Malinga’s four-in-four against New Zealand in 2019.

With this fiery spell, Gede Priandana has pushed the boundaries of what is possible in T20 cricket, setting a record that may stand for years.
