To curb rising street crimes involving motorcycles, Peshawar Police have made registration mandatory for all bike riders and introduced a dedicated Safe Ride mobile application to enhance monitoring and public safety.
CCPO Mian Saeed announced that the app allows riders to register digitally, while those without smartphone access can complete registration manually at any nearby police station.
Once registered, riders will receive a QR code sticker to place on their motorcycle. Police officials said this QR system will help verify riders quickly and integrate their credentials into the central police database.
Why the New System Was Introduced
The decision follows a recent spike in snatching and robbery cases involving motorcyclists. Police have already arrested 10 suspects linked to these incidents. Authorities believe the new digital system will:
-
Monitor bike riders more effectively
-
Deter criminal activity
-
Safeguard online ride-hailing workers
-
Improve identification and tracking of offenders
Mansehra Introduces Similar Registration Drive
In a parallel move, Mansehra Police—acting on directives from DPO Muhammad Azhar Khan—have launched a district-wide registration campaign for online bike riders following crimes committed under the cover of ride-hailing services.
Each rider will be assigned a unique registration number, and their complete credentials will be stored at the relevant police station.
Authorities in both Peshawar and Mansehra have urged the public to ensure riders complete mandatory registration to help curb crime and maintain law and order.
