The Punjab government has officially received 87 brand-new electric buses from China, marking a significant milestone in Pakistan’s shift toward eco-friendly and affordable public transport.
According to official sources, the state-of-the-art buses will operate across an 84-kilometer network covering Rawalpindi and Islamabad, providing passengers with modern, comfortable, and digital travel facilities.
Each bus features air conditioning, Wi-Fi, GPS tracking, and mobile charging ports, ensuring a smooth and connected commute.
🎫 Affordable Travel for Everyone
Under the new initiative, the standard fare has been set at Rs. 20 per ride, making it one of the most affordable public transport systems in the region.
Additionally, senior citizens aged 60 and above will travel free of cost, reflecting the government’s commitment to inclusive urban mobility.
🛣️ Four Routes to Begin in Phases
PML-N Rawalpindi Division President Malik Abrar Ahmed confirmed that the electric buses will operate on four main routes, launched in phases.
The first route will run from Rawat to Motorway Chowk, providing a safe, reliable, and energy-efficient commuting option for thousands of daily passengers.
📆 Inauguration Update
The launch ceremony, initially planned for October 15, was postponed due to unrest caused by Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) demonstrations in Punjab.
Officials have confirmed that the project will be inaugurated soon, once the situation in the province stabilizes.
🌿 Why It Matters
This development is part of Punjab’s broader plan to modernize urban transport and reduce carbon emissions.
The arrival of these Chinese-built buses represents a key move toward sustainable, low-cost, and high-tech transportation for the twin cities.
