Diesel Prices Drop, Punjab Govt Directs Transporters to Lower Fares

The Punjab government has ordered an immediate reduction in public transport fares following a significant decrease in diesel prices, aiming to pass on direct financial relief to commuters across the province.

Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan directed transport authorities to issue revised fare lists without delay and ensure strict enforcement at the ground level. The move comes amid public expectations that fuel price cuts should translate into lower travel costs.

Monitoring Teams Formed in All Districts

To ensure compliance, the transport minister ordered the formation of monitoring teams in every district. These teams will inspect buses, vans, and other public transport vehicles to verify that updated fares are being implemented.

He also instructed all Regional Transport Authorities (RTAs) to submit detailed reports confirming that fare reductions have been enforced across their respective areas.

Strict Action Against Overcharging Transporters

Bilal Akbar Khan warned that transporters charging excessive or unapproved fares will face strict legal action. Authorities have been directed to impose penalties on violators and take disciplinary measures where necessary.

In a strong message to transport operators, the minister further ordered that passengers who were overcharged must be refunded the excess amount, reinforcing the government’s zero-tolerance policy.

Relief to Reach the Public

The transport minister stated that the government is committed to ensuring that the benefits of reduced diesel prices reach the general public directly, particularly daily commuters who rely on public transport for work, education, and essential travel.

He emphasized that no leniency will be shown to transporters who fail to comply with the revised fare structure, adding that enforcement efforts will continue until full compliance is achieved.
