The National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS) has announced the results of the National Registration Examination (NRE) for foreign medical and dental graduates, revealing a pass rate of just over 20%. The exam, conducted on December 14, 2025, follows the policy and standards set by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC).
A total of 7,076 candidates registered, including 6,993 medical graduates and 83 dental graduates. Out of these, 7,012 candidates appeared, while 64 were absent. Only 1,473 candidates passed the exam, comprising 1,467 medical graduates and six dental graduates. This results in a 21.17% pass rate for medical graduates and 7.23% for dental graduates.
Comparison With Previous NRE
The previous NRE, held on June 25, 2025, saw a slightly higher medical pass rate of 25.26%, with 1,252 medical graduates passing out of 4,994 candidates. These statistics underscore the challenging nature of the NRE and the rigorous standards maintained by the PMDC.
Next Steps for Successful Candidates
Candidates who pass both steps of the NRE will be eligible for provisional registration certificates from the PMDC, enabling them to undertake house jobs in Pakistan or abroad. The dates for the Step-II clinical examination will be announced shortly.
Importance of Attending Recognized Institutions
The PMDC stressed that results were compiled strictly following merit and international practices. A spokesperson emphasized that students and parents should only consider PMDC-recognized foreign medical and dental institutions, warning that low-standard or unrecognized schools could jeopardize careers and waste time and money.
The council highlighted that making informed educational choices is crucial to maintaining the integrity of the medical profession in Pakistan and ensuring aspiring healthcare professionals achieve long-term success.
