Pakistan’s rising tennis talent Shayan Afridi has brought pride to the country by winning the El Paso Sports Commission Junior Open Tennis Tournament in the under-14 category after an impressive performance in the United States.
The young Pakistani defeated Andrew Hiotellkis by 4–0 in the final, which was held at the El Paso Tennis Club in Texas. Shayan dominated the championship match from start to finish, showcasing confidence, control, and maturity well beyond his age.
Strong International Exposure for Young Players
Shayan Afridi is currently in the United States along with fellow junior tennis player Rashid Ali, as part of an international exposure and training program. Before arriving in Texas, both players competed in the prestigious Junior Orange Bowl International Tennis Championship in Miami.
Notably, Shayan Afridi and Rashid Ali qualified for and played in the main draw of the Junior Orange Bowl, an achievement considered a major milestone in international junior tennis.
One-Month Training Program in Texas
Following the Orange Bowl, the Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF), in collaboration with the BARD Foundation, arranged a one-month training and competition program in Texas for the two players.
The program is being conducted under the supervision of renowned ATP-certified coach Eduardo Vicencuo Lalovic. During this period, both players are undergoing intensive professional training while participating in local tournaments to enhance their match experience and competitive mindset.
PTF Praises Young Tennis Talent
Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, President of the Pakistan Tennis Federation, praised the young athletes and said that Shayan Afridi and Rashid Ali represent the future of Pakistan tennis.
He emphasized that the PTF is committed to providing international exposure, modern coaching, and competitive opportunities to junior players. According to him, Shayan Afridi’s tournament victory is a strong indication that Pakistan’s junior tennis development pathway is moving in the right direction.
The win has further boosted optimism about Pakistan’s presence on the international tennis stage in the coming years.
