Punjab Launches Same-Day Birth Registration With NADRA: No More Delays for B-Forms

The Punjab government has launched a major reform that will allow newborn babies to be registered with NADRA on the very day they are born, eliminating the long delays families typically face in obtaining a Child Registration Certificate (CRC), commonly known as the B-Form.

Officials confirmed that the initiative is a joint effort between the Local Government Department, the Health Department, and NADRA, aimed at transforming birth documentation into a fast, digital, and hassle-free process across the province.

📌 Why the New System Matters

The B-Form is essential for accessing several services in Pakistan, including:

  • Applying for a passport

  • School admissions and board exam registrations

  • Securing government benefits

  • Completing various legal requirements

By integrating hospitals, union councils, and NADRA under one coordinated workflow, the government intends to close documentation gaps that previously left thousands of children unregistered for months—or even years.

📝 What Parents Need to Provide

To register a newborn under the new same-day system, parents must present:

  • A valid CNIC or NICOP

  • An official birth record issued by the union council

Once the record is verified, NADRA will process the CRC immediately.

👶 NADRA’s Data Requirements for Children

Under NADRA’s existing policies:

  • Under 3 years: No photo or biometric data required

  • 3–10 years: A photograph is mandatory; iris scan collected where possible

  • 10–18 years: Photograph, fingerprints, and iris scan required

Every child receives a separate CRC with a validity period defined by NADRA.

🏥 Digital Integration Already Underway

Officials say the system will be available in government hospitals first, before being expanded to private facilities. The goal is to ensure every child receives a legal identity almost instantly—closing loopholes that previously contributed to underreporting and documentation issues.
