Rawalpindi Electric Bus Service Launch Date Revealed

Rawalpindi is all set to introduce its first-ever electric bus service, with the initial phase scheduled for next week. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is expected to inaugurate this milestone project, marking a new era of eco-friendly public transport in the garrison city.

Rawalpindi Electric Bus Service Launch Date Revealed

Initial Rollout and Routes

The first phase of the electric bus service will cover 10 key routes across Rawalpindi. A total of 80 electric buses are planned for the network. Currently, 45 buses that arrived last month are ready for deployment, while the remaining 35 buses will join the service after the completion of new charging stations on Peshawar Road by December.

Launch Delay and Preparations

The inauguration was initially scheduled for October 15 but was postponed due to the Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan protest in Islamabad. Preparations are now in full swing, including a temporary charging facility at the old GTS bus stand on Adamjee Road.

Buses are currently parked at the GTS Bus Stand and the Metro Bus Command and Control Centre on Haider Road. Authorities have also completed staff recruitment and route planning in preparation for the launch.

Driver Training and Operational Details

RTA Secretary Asad Shirazi confirmed that driver training has been finalized. Operations are set to begin next week. Due to ongoing construction at Kutchery Chowk, buses will temporarily skip this stop and follow alternative routes until the area reopens.

Why This Matters for Rawalpindi

The electric bus project will not only provide a clean and eco-friendly transport option but also improve commuting convenience for residents. With modern buses and a structured network, Rawalpindi is taking a significant step toward sustainable urban transport.

Experts predict that the service will reduce pollution, improve traffic management, and offer a modern travel experience to the city’s residents.
