The Sindh government has approved the launch of an e-challan system within the Sindh Food Authority (SFA), adopting a model similar to the digital enforcement system used in traffic management.
The decision came during a meeting between Sindh Minister for Food Mehboob-uz-Zaman and PPP Women’s Wing Chairperson Faryal Talpur, where officials briefed both leaders on online registration, complaint handling, and digital challan workflows.
The minister said that digitizing the SFA will help deliver faster, more transparent, and citizen-focused services, improving oversight across the food sector.
He also updated Talpur on the Authority’s ongoing crackdown against substandard food suppliers and briefed her on the newly revised veterinary stock policy.
Earlier this year, the Sindh Food Authority conducted a major inspection at a well-known five-star hotel in Karachi, uncovering serious hygiene and safety violations. Inspectors seized 25 kilograms of expired meat, old buttercream, and other compromised items.
The kitchen and washing areas were found in poor sanitary condition, prompting the SFA to file a case in the South Civil Judge’s Court, stressing the need for stronger accountability and stricter enforcement.
Officials believe the new e-challan system will enhance monitoring, reduce manual loopholes, and support public health through more consistent regulation.
