Punjab Announces New Rule for Motorcyclists

The Punjab government has introduced a new rule requiring all motorcyclists to wear masks in an effort to combat worsening air pollution and smog across the province.

Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb announced that polluted air from Indian cities — including Delhi, Chandigarh, Gurdaspur, Ludhiana, and Patiala — is drifting toward Lahore, while Multan, Bahawalpur, and Bahawalnagar are also facing smog from across the border.

“Wearing masks while riding motorcycles is now compulsory,” said Aurangzeb, urging citizens to keep car windows closed and homes sealed during peak smog hours.

🏗️ New Anti-Smog Measures

  • Construction sites must cover all materials to prevent dust spread.

  • Trucks and transporters must cover goods while in transit.

  • Water sprinkling and anti-smog guns are being deployed in major cities.

  • Residents are advised to limit outdoor movement and wear masks during commutes.

Authorities expect a brief improvement in air quality between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m., though mild haze is likely to continue in afternoons.

🌫️ Smog Situation & Public Advisory

The minister warned that smog levels could worsen during Diwali celebrations in India, adding that regional cooperation and citizen responsibility are vital for long-term relief.

“Every individual’s cooperation is essential to reduce smog and ensure cleaner air,” Aurangzeb emphasized.
